PFSI is committed to offering our clients with the best solutions to their substrate needs. One item that is often over-looked when addressing flooring projects is moisture content and vapor emissions prior to the installation of the actual floor finishes. Moisture can, and usually will, cause adhesion failures which will result in product delamination of the floor covering system. PFSI offers the highest quality of moisture control vapor barriers in conjunction with our relationship with Ardex. As an Ardex LevelMaster Elite Installers, we can offer unmatched warranties up to 25 years!
For the most part, floor covering installations require a very minimal moisture content and emission rating for the manufacturer to honor their warranty. If the moisture vapor emission content of the substrate exceeds their requirements, the warranty of the product will be voided. This year alone, these problematic slabs will cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damages alone. A moisture vapor barrier system is the bullet proof solution to protect your floor covering system.
Polished concrete floors have proven to be low-maintenance, as they are more durable and easier to clean than many flooring options. Its relatively high coefficient of friction makes it non-slippery, passing the OSHA SCOF minimum of 0.5. Polished concrete reduces dust and allergen problems. Polished concrete flooring is hard wearing and will not chip or dent like softer surfaces such as timber. A concrete floor that has been hardened and polished will have an extremely long life expectancy compared to other flooring. Polished concrete has bridged the gap between aesthetics and performance of concrete as a final finish. Whether you have a new concrete surface or an old slab the polished concrete process can transform your concrete into an operation resistant eye appealing floor finish. And because polishing is a multistep process, you can choose the level of sheen — from satin to high-gloss — that meets your maintenance and aesthetic requirements. This versatility makes polished concrete an ideal flooring material for a variety of applications.
There are several reasons that contribute to moisture transmission. Here are some of the most common:
A calcium chloride test (ASTM F1869) and relative humidity test (ASTM F2170) are the two universally recognized tests used to assess moisture. These tests measure the moisture contained and emitted within the substrate. A pH test can be implemented to examine the surface of the concrete for alkaline salts, which can lead to adhesive failure as well.
With industry partners such as Ardex Americas, PFSI can remediate moisture issues while offering up to an unrivaled 25-year warranty with our Ardex LevelMaster Elite status.
PFSI utilizes such products as ARDEX MC™ RAPID MOISTURE CONTROL SYSTEM, a one-coat, 100% solids epoxy moisture management system that is formulated to suppress excessive moisture vapor emissions in new or existing concrete prior to installing an Ardex underlayment system.
